Annual Report

Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank Charitable Foundation Trust
2007 Chairman’s Letter

The Foundation’s gifts in 2007 once again paint a rich portrait of the many community support activities taking place on the Cape. The Foundation was privileged to provide funding to organizations undertaking efforts in the areas of Arts and Culture, Conservation and Environment, Health and Elder Services, Human Need, and Youth and Education. Gifts benefited over 150 organizations  (and individuals, through the scholarship program). Donations underwrote non-profit programmatic activities in a variety of settings and towns from Provincetown to Falmouth. In reviewing the list of recipients, you will see organizations like the Cape Cod Free Clinic, receiving funds for dental supplies, the Boys and Girls Club, for their Project Learn, the Chatham Food Pantry, for their summer food drive and the Friends of the Dennis Public Library for their Author Friday.

Sensitive to the housing pressures on local residents brought about by economic challenges, the Foundation continued its support of organizations such as the Housing Assistance Corporation, Harwich Ecumenical Council, and the Lower Cape Community Development Corporation.

The Foundation is committed to efforts to preserve our local environment, funding land acquisitions by conservation organizations in five towns. In addition, a database of historical farms was underwritten in Falmouth. Aware that our cultural fabric is also a critical part of our environment, the Foundation was a proud supporter of a variety of activities, including sponsoring the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra’s Pops series.

The Foundation made a number of new multi-year commitments to Capital Campaigns, including the Falmouth Public Library, the Hyannis Athletic Association, the Josiah Dennis Manse Museum and the Wellfleet Preservation Hall.

Each year, we take great delight in funding Mini-Grants to Teachers   and “Laptop-ships” (computers as scholarships) to a number of high school graduates throughout the Cape.

As the organization has evolved and grown, we have focused on continuing to improve the processes we use for decision making and awarding of Foundation support. We have enhanced our proactive planning for allocating gifts including modifying our approach to donations to some of the larger, regional non-profits on the Cape. We anticipate the introduction of a formal application form in 2008.

We are grateful to the staff and volunteers of the recipient organizations for their hard work on behalf of our community. We are also grateful to the staff and volunteers of The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank Charitable Foundation Trust for working to thoughtfully provide support to these many worthy organizations on the Cape.
