Orleans, MA – Over 5,000 items were collected for Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops during a donation drive held at Cape Cod Five Banking Centers during the week of November 6th. These items were included in over 1,100 holiday care packages that were sent to U.S. troops who will be away from home during the holidays.
“Our servicemen and servicewomen are dedicated to protecting our country and our freedoms, and we greatly appreciate their sacrifices,” said Dorothy A. Savarese, President and CEO of Cape Cod Five. “We hope these care packages will be a reminder of our enduring support and will help make their holiday season a little brighter.”
The holiday care package items collected at Cape Cod Five were donated by employees and customers. Items contributed included: handwritten messages of appreciation, blank greeting cards for troops to send messages home, toiletries and personal care items, candy, playing cards, socks, journals, hand sanitizer, facial tissue, lip balm, magazines, small toys to give to children, snacks and hot chocolate.
Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops is a nonprofit all-volunteer organization that was founded in 2005 by 12-year-old Dylan DeSilva to honor our troops for their service, dedication and sacrifices to our country. Each year, the organization sends holiday care packages to U.S. troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Over 25,000 care packages have been sent to date to troops overseas.
