Hyannis, MA – Cape Cod 5 welcomed local public school teachers to their new headquarters (HQ5TM) for the 20th Annual Mini-Grants Awards Reception on Wednesday, February 5, 2020. At the event, in which teachers were celebrated for their hard work and commitment to innovation, Cape Cod 5 presented 87 grants totaling $39,932 to 110 teachers from 46 local schools to fund educational projects they have developed. The teachers estimate that these projects will impact close to 24,000 students.

The list of winning projects cover a wide array of subject areas, including virtual reality, civic engagement and diplomacy, social emotional learning, marine engineering, computer science, coding and robotics.

Approximately 100 local educators came together for the awards reception. During a brief ceremony, Co-President Robert Talerman welcomedPicture of 20 mini grant bonus grant recipients the award winners and guests and announced that, "Since the inception of the Educational Mini-Grants Program in 2000, Cape Cod 5 has awarded 1,166 Mini-Grants totaling $454,153." Chair of the Mini-Grant Review Committee and Chief Marketing Officer Stephanie Dennehy provided the data on this year's grant round and highlighted some of the projects that had received a Mini-Grant.

Dorothy A. Savarese, Chair and CEO of Cape Cod 5, shared her gratitude and admiration for the award winners. "We are proud to support our dedicated local educators who continue to use innovation and dedication to bridge the gap between what our future leaders are taught in the classroom and what they will experience in the real world," said Savarese. "In order for our society and communities to thrive during a time of change, individuals need creative thinking skills that are established through educational projects like these. This is why Cape Cod 5 has identified Education and Enrichment as an important area of focus where we hope to continue making an impact in our communities."

She then announced that in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the program, 20 additional grants would be presented on the spot through a random drawing. Public educators from all grade levels in the communities served by the Bank are eligible for the award and submit their applications in the fall each year.
