November 5, 2025
Veterans Day is a special time to honor those who have served our country, but there are many ways to show gratitude beyond a simple "thank you." Supporting Veterans can create lasting impacts in their lives and strengthen community bonds.
Here are five meaningful ways to support Veterans this Veterans Day.
- Volunteer at Local Veteran Organizations
Many communities have organizations dedicated to supporting Veterans, such as Cape & Islands Veterans Outreach Center, Massachusetts Military Support Foundation, Falmouth Community Veterans Center, or local arms of national organizations like the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) or the American Legion. These groups often rely on volunteers for various services, from coordinating events to providing transportation for Veterans in need. Volunteering time at these organizations is an excellent way to show appreciation and help Veterans directly.
- Donate to Veteran Charities
A great way to support Veterans is through donations to reputable Veteran charities. In addition to organizations previously mentioned, you can provide philanthropic support to a nonprofit like Heroes in Transition, which helps Veterans reorient to civilian life, or donate goods for Cape Cod Cares for the Troops, which provides care packages for local Veterans and military personnel overseas. Cape Cod 5 is proud to partner with Cape Cod Cares for the Troops, and you can donate goods for these care packages at any of our Banking Centers from November 10-22, 2025. Just remember to research charities (Better Business Bureau and Charity Navigator are good resources) to ensure donations go to credible organizations.
- Support Veteran-Owned Businesses
Many Veterans start their own businesses after leaving the service. Purchasing from Veteran-owned businesses can support their entrepreneurial goals and encourage economic stability in their lives. Use Love Live Local's Business Directory or do an online search to find local or online Veteran-owned shops, restaurants, or service providers. Supporting these businesses strengthens the Veteran community and the local economy.
- Write Letters of Gratitude
A simple gesture, like writing a heartfelt note, can make a big difference. Organizations like A Million Thanks accept letters to be sent to Veterans across the country. This small act of kindness can brighten a Veteran's day and remind them they are appreciated. Schools, workplaces or community groups can make it a group effort to create a collection of notes, making it a memorable Veterans Day tradition.
- Advocate for Veteran Services
Sometimes, Veterans face challenges in accessing benefits and support services. Reaching out to local representatives and advocating for policies supporting Veterans' healthcare, education, and employment, such as the HERO Act, can make a positive impact. Educating yourself about Veterans' issues can also help raise awareness in your community, leading to stronger support networks and improved policies for those who served.
Each of these actions shows respect and gratitude for Veterans' service and sacrifice. This Veterans Day, consider taking one of these steps to make a difference in the lives of those who have given so much.
At Cape Cod 5, we’re proud to support Veterans, active service members, and their families all year. This Veterans Day, we want to express our deep gratitude for all who have served.
